Privacy policy
Last updated: September 8, 2026
Gnothia uses Shopify to operate this website and store. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect, use, and share when you use the services, buy a product, or contact us. It explains your choices too. If our Terms of Service conflict with this policy on a personal-information issue, this policy applies.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using and accessing any of the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.
To find a particular answer, use the sections below on information we collect, how we use and share it, optional book printing, retention, and your privacy rights and choices. If you have a question about your information, contact gnothia.app@gmail.com.
Personal Information We Collect or Process
When we use the term "personal information," we are referring to information that identifies or can reasonably be linked to you or another person. Personal information does not include information that is collected anonymously or that has been de-identified, so that it cannot identify or be reasonably linked to you. We may collect or process the following categories of personal information, including inferences drawn from this personal information, depending on how you interact with the Services, where you live, and as permitted or required by applicable law:
- Contact details including your name, address, billing address, shipping address, phone number, and email address.
- Financial information including credit card, debit card, and financial account numbers, payment card information, financial account information, transaction details, form of payment, payment confirmation and other payment details.
- Account information including your username, password, security questions, preferences and settings.
- Transaction information including the items you view, put in your cart, add to your wishlist, or purchase, return, exchange or cancel and your past transactions.
- Communications with us including the information you include in communications with us, for example, when sending a customer support inquiry.
- Device information including information about your device, browser, or network connection, your IP address, and other unique identifiers.
- Usage information including information regarding your interaction with the Services, including how and when you interact with or navigate the Services.
- Birth, profile, reading, conversation, feedback, and people-you-add information including the name used for a reading; birth date; birth time, approximate range, and time-status choice; birth city and country; coordinates derived from the birth city; calculated chart and profile information; questionnaire and intake answers; self-reports, corrections, pattern notes, and life events; generated readings and files; the words you enter in Anam or other Gnothia conversations, together with relevant conversation history and summaries; and routing corrections or “landed” and “missed” feedback you submit. If you add or invite another person, this also includes the name or relationship label, birth information, calculated chart, and relationship or child-focused reading associated with that person. Information submitted through an invite link is stored with the inviting reader’s person record rather than in a separate Gnothia account for the invitee.
Personal Information Sources
We may collect personal information from the following sources:
- Directly from you including when you create an account, visit or use the Services, communicate with us, or otherwise provide us with your personal information;
- Automatically through the Services including from your device when you use our products or services or visit our websites, and through the use of cookies and similar technologies;
- From our service providers including when we engage them to enable certain technology and when they collect or process your personal information on our behalf;
- From our partners or other third parties.
How We Use Your Personal Information
Depending on how you interact with us or which of the Services you use, we may use personal information for the following purposes:
- Provide, Tailor, and Improve the Services. We use your personal information to provide you with the Services, including to perform our contract with you, to process your payments, to fulfill your orders, to remember your preferences and items you are interested in, to send notifications to you related to your account, to process purchases, returns, exchanges or other transactions, to create, maintain and otherwise manage your account, to arrange for shipping, to facilitate any returns and exchanges, to enable you to post reviews, and to create a customized shopping experience for you, such as recommending products related to your purchases. This may include using your personal information to better tailor and improve the Services.
- Generate and maintain your personalized Gnothia experience. We use your birth information to calculate charts and profiles; your chart, reading, intake, self-report, and life-context information to create and organize personalized readings; and the words you enter, together with relevant stored context, to provide Anam and other conversational features. We also use this information to deliver files and service messages, preserve your account history, respond to corrections, provide export and deletion functions, and operate and secure the reading service.
- Measure how the service performs. We use routing results and corrections, together with “landed” and “missed” feedback, to calculate aggregate counts about how Gnothia’s interpretations and features perform. The aggregate totals do not include reader names, user IDs, or the text a reader entered, although the underlying account-linked records remain stored until they are removed through the applicable feature or account-deletion process.
- Provide sharing and invitation features you choose to use. If you enable a public share link, Gnothia makes the Soul Facts label connected to that link, including the name shown on the label and its derived profile information, available to anyone who has the link and to services that generate link previews. Revoking the link disables it in Gnothia, but copies or cached versions already saved outside Gnothia may remain outside our control. If you send a birth-information invite, the information submitted through that invite is stored with the person record in your account.
- Marketing and Advertising. We use your personal information for marketing and promotional purposes, such as to send marketing, advertising and promotional communications by email, text message or postal mail, and to show you online advertisements for products or services on the Services or other websites, including based on items you previously have purchased or added to your cart and other activity on the Services.
- Security and Fraud Prevention. We use your personal information to authenticate your account, to provide a secure payment and shopping experience, detect, investigate or take action regarding possible fraudulent, illegal, unsafe, or malicious activity, protect public safety, and to secure our services. If you choose to use the Services and register an account, you are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe. We highly recommend that you do not share your username, password or other access details with anyone else.
- Communicating with You. We use your personal information to provide you with customer support, to be responsive to you, to provide effective services to you and to maintain our business relationship with you.
- Legal Reasons. We use your personal information to comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including requests from law enforcement or government agencies, to investigate or participate in civil discovery, potential or actual litigation, or other adversarial legal proceedings, and to enforce or investigate potential violations of our terms or policies.
Reading-Service Providers, Sharing, and Operational Access
The reading service uses service providers, including the following, for calculation, generation, hosting, security, sales, and delivery. Each receives information according to the feature it supports, as described below:
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim. When a birth city needs coordinates, Gnothia sends the city text to the public Nominatim geocoding service. Gnothia does not include the birth date, birth time, reading, or Anam conversation in that request. The lookup is made by Gnothia’s server, so Nominatim receives the server request rather than a direct browser request from the reader.
- Anthropic. To generate a reading or reply, Gnothia sends Anthropic the words entered for that request and the relevant context selected by the service. Depending on the feature, that context can include your name and birth information; calculated chart or profile material; selected reading passages; intake or self-report information; relevant stored memory; page content; a bounded conversation history or summary; and calculated relationship material about a person you added. Gnothia does not send payment-card information to Anthropic. Gnothia does not use this information to train its own AI models. Anthropic states that it does not use standard commercial API inputs or outputs to train its models unless the commercial customer explicitly opts in or submits feedback.
- Railway. Railway hosts the Gnothia reading application, including its database and generated profile and reading files on a persistent volume.
- Cloudflare. Cloudflare provides edge delivery, security, and Turnstile bot protection for the Gnothia reading service. When you visit the reading service, Cloudflare processes ordinary web-request and browser or network signals, such as the IP address, user agent, and request details. On protected forms, the Turnstile widget also sends browser and network signals to Cloudflare, and Gnothia submits the Turnstile response token and, when available, the requester’s IP address to Cloudflare for verification and abuse prevention.
- Google Fonts. The reading service can load font stylesheets and files from Google-hosted domains. Those requests send ordinary web-request information, such as the requester’s IP address and user agent, to Google.
- Klaviyo. Klaviyo supports email delivery and marketing. Gnothia sends an email address and may send a first name, event and delivery details, private service links, rendered email content, order or tier information, chart- or reading-specific hooks, themes and questions, and birth date, birth city, or birth country information when someone requests birth-time help. Gnothia records an affirmative email-marketing opt-in separately as a marketing subscription. Gnothia also sends product-access and reading follow-up messages through Klaviyo; some follow-up messages include related offers and are not gated by that marketing-subscription record. You can unsubscribe from marketing-classified email at any time, although doing so can also prevent Klaviyo from delivering product-access messages sent through the same non-transactional flow system.
- Shopify. Shopify operates the storefront, checkout, payment, and authoritative order record. Gnothia receives signed order information and stores a reduced fulfillment and entitlement record, which can include the order ID, email address, purchased tier or scope, selected Doorway, claim access, and allowed attribution information. Gnothia does not store the complete signed order payload as its reading-app record.
Authorized Gnothia operators may access account, birth, reading, conversation, private-link, and delivery information through authenticated administrative tools when needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, support, or administer the service and respond to privacy requests.
Gnothia does not sell birth, chart, reading, intake, self-report, life-event, or Anam conversation content processed by the reading service, and does not send that content to advertising platforms for ad targeting.
Printed and Bound Full Readings
Printed and bound Full Readings are produced and shipped by Lulu. If you order one, Gnothia sends Lulu only your personalized Full Reading PDF and the name, shipping address, and other delivery details needed to print and ship your book. Your free reading, Doorway, questions, and other account data are not included.
How We Disclose Personal Information
In certain circumstances, we may disclose your personal information to third parties for legitimate purposes subject to this Privacy Policy. Such circumstances may include:
- With Shopify, vendors and other third parties who perform services on our behalf (e.g. IT management, payment processing, data analytics, customer support, cloud storage, fulfillment and shipping).
- With business and marketing partners to provide marketing services and advertise to you. For example, we use Shopify to support personalized advertising with third-party services based on your online activity with different merchants and websites. Our business and marketing partners will use your information in accordance with their own privacy notices. Depending on where you reside, you may have a right to direct us not to share information about you to show you targeted advertisements and marketing based on your online activity with different merchants and websites. You can exercise your rights to opt-out of those uses here .
- When you direct, request us or otherwise consent to our disclosure of certain information to third parties, such as to ship you products or through your use of social media widgets or login integrations.
- With our affiliates or otherwise within our corporate group.
- In connection with a business transaction such as a merger or bankruptcy, to comply with any applicable legal obligations (including to respond to subpoenas, search warrants and similar requests), to enforce any applicable terms of service or policies, and to protect or defend the Services, our rights, and the rights of our users or others.
Relationship with Shopify
Shopify hosts the Gnothia storefront and checkout and collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of those Shopify-hosted services. Payment, order, transaction, and shipping information submitted through the storefront or checkout is transmitted to Shopify. The Gnothia reading application is hosted separately by Railway as described above. Birth information, reading content, and Anam conversations are not sent to Shopify merely because you use the reading application; Gnothia receives limited signed order information from Shopify when needed to fulfill a purchase and provide access. In addition, to help protect, grow, and improve our business, we use certain Shopify enhanced features that incorporate data and information obtained from your interactions with our Store, along with other merchants and with Shopify. To provide these enhanced features, Shopify may make use of personal information collected about your interactions with our store, along with other merchants, and with Shopify. In these circumstances, Shopify is responsible for the processing of your personal information, including for responding to your requests to exercise your rights over use of your personal information for these purposes. To learn more about how Shopify uses your personal information and any rights you may have, you can visit the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy. Depending on where you live, you may exercise certain rights with respect to personal information processed by Shopify through the Shopify Privacy Portal.
Third Party Websites and Links
The Services may provide links to websites or other online platforms operated by third parties. If you follow links to sites not affiliated or controlled by us, you should review their privacy and security policies and other terms and conditions. We do not guarantee and are not responsible for the privacy or security of such sites, including the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of information found on these sites. Information you provide on public or semi-public venues, including information you share on third-party social networking platforms may also be viewable by other users of the Services and/or users of those third-party platforms without limitation as to its use by us or by a third party. Our inclusion of such links does not, by itself, imply any endorsement of the content on such platforms or of their owners or operators, except as disclosed on the Services.
Children's Data
The Services are not intended for a child to use on their own. An adult account holder can choose to add a child or another person for a relationship or child-focused reading. If you submit another person's information, including through a birth-information invite, you confirm that you have the authority or consent required to provide it to Gnothia. Gnothia can process that person's name or relationship label, birth information, calculated chart, and relationship or child-focused reading as part of the account holder's experience. Information submitted through an invite link is stored with the inviting reader's person record rather than in a separate Gnothia account for the invitee. If you believe a child's or another person's information was provided without appropriate authority, contact us using the details below so we can investigate and respond to a verified request. As of the Effective Date of this Privacy Policy, we do not have actual knowledge that we “share” or “sell” (as those terms are defined in applicable law) personal information of individuals under 16 years of age.
Security and Retention of Your Information
Please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee "perfect security." In addition, any information you send to us may not be secure while in transit. We recommend that you do not use unsecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us.
Gnothia does not currently expire reading-service content on an automatic timer. Account, chart, generated reading, intake, self-report, pattern, life-event, and conversation content is retained while it is needed to provide your account and until it is deleted through the service or an account-deletion request, unless a longer period is required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement of our agreements.
When a reading finishes successfully, Gnothia removes the submitted email address and raw birth payload from the temporary reading-job record. This cleanup does not remove the account, calculated chart, generated reading, or persistent intake information used to provide the reading. A failed or unfinished reading job does not currently have an automatic expiry and can retain its submitted email address, raw birth payload, intake information, and last error until the associated account is deleted.
A Gnothia data export includes the account-linked records and ordinary generated files held in Gnothia’s own reading-service database, profile folder, and outbox folder. It excludes login and access secrets, credential hashes, checkout secrets, and records held separately by service providers. If the account holder added another person, the bundle can include that person’s name or relationship label, related stored material, and nested chart files. Information submitted through another reader’s invite is stored under the inviting reader’s account and is not returned through a separate invitee-account export. The export ZIP is assembled in memory and is not intentionally retained as a server-side archive.
When a Gnothia account is deleted, Gnothia deletes the database rows linked to that account and removes the account’s generated profile, reading, and outbox files. It removes direct reader identifiers from linked local Shopify order rows, printed-order rows, delivery history, and consent or account-action history, and keeps a content-light record that a deletion occurred without a reader identifier. Retained order IDs and operational records can still correspond to separate provider-held records and are not described as anonymous across all systems.
Paid-order or entitlement rows that have not yet been linked to the account do not participate in the account-deletion cascade and may still retain an email address until they are matched or handled separately through a verified privacy request. Shopify’s authoritative order and transaction record is separate and may be retained for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute, and commerce obligations.
When a Gnothia account is deleted, Gnothia places the email address needed for Klaviyo deletion in a local retry queue and attempts to submit a profile-deletion request to Klaviyo. Gnothia removes the email address from that queue after Klaviyo accepts the request. Klaviyo processes accepted requests asynchronously, so acceptance does not itself confirm that Klaviyo has completed deletion.
Anthropic states that it automatically deletes standard commercial API inputs and outputs from its backend within 30 days, except where a different agreement applies or longer retention is needed to enforce its Usage Policy or comply with law. Gnothia does not promise zero retention at Anthropic.
As of September 7, 2026, Gnothia’s current Railway plan does not provide scheduled volume backups or point-in-time recovery. Accordingly, Gnothia currently has no separate Railway scheduled-backup retention period. This statement does not cover provider security, access, abuse-prevention, legal, or transaction logs, and it will need to be updated if Gnothia’s Railway plan or backup configuration changes.
Deleting a Gnothia account does not necessarily cause immediate deletion from Shopify's authoritative commerce records or from a provider's security, legal, or backup systems. Other providers may retain limited records for the periods described in their own policies or required by law. We will handle verified privacy requests as required by applicable law and will not claim that provider-side deletion is complete until it has been confirmed.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the rights listed below in relation to your personal information. However, these rights are not absolute, may apply only in certain circumstances and, in certain cases, we may decline your request as permitted by law.
- Right to Access / Know. You may have a right to request access to personal information that we hold about you.
- Right to Delete. You may have a right to request that we delete personal information we maintain about you.
- Right to Correct. You may have a right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
- Right of Portability. You may have a right to receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to request that we transfer it to a third party, in certain circumstances and with certain exceptions.
- Right to Opt out of Sale or Sharing for Targeted Advertising. Depending on where you reside, you may have a right to opt out of the "sale" or "share" of your personal information or to opt out of the processing of your personal information for purposes considered to be "targeted advertising", as defined in applicable privacy laws. You can exercise your rights to opt-out of those uses here. Please note that if you visit our website with the Global Privacy Control opt-out preference signal enabled, depending on where you are, we will automatically treat this as a request to opt-out for the device and browser that you use to visit the website. If we are able to associate the device sending the signal to a Shopify account, we will apply the opt out request to the account as well. To learn more about Global Privacy Control, you can visit https://globalprivacycontrol.org/. Other than the Global Privacy Control, we do not recognize other "Do Not Track" signals that may be sent from your web browser or device.
- Managing Communication Preferences. We may send you promotional emails, and you may opt out of receiving these at any time by using the unsubscribe option displayed in our emails to you. If you opt out, we may still send you non-promotional emails, such as those about your account or orders that you have made.
You may exercise any of these rights where indicated on the Services or by contacting us using the contact details provided below. To learn more about how Shopify uses your personal information and any rights you may have, including rights related to data processed by Shopify, you can visit https://privacy.shopify.com/en.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. We may need to verify your identity before we can process your requests, as permitted or required under applicable law. In accordance with applicable laws, you may designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf to exercise your rights. Before accepting such a request from an agent, we will require that the agent provide proof you have authorized them to act on your behalf, and we may need you to verify your identity directly with us. We will respond to your request in a timely manner as required under applicable law.
Complaints
If you have complaints about how we process your personal information, please contact us using the contact details provided below. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to appeal our decision by contacting us using the contact details set out below, or lodge your complaint with your local data protection authority.

Please note that we may transfer, store and process your personal information outside the country you live in.
If we transfer your personal information out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we will rely on recognized transfer mechanisms like the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or any equivalent contracts issued by the relevant competent authority of the UK, as relevant, unless the data transfer is to a country that has been determined to provide an adequate level of protection.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised Privacy Policy on this website, update the "Last updated" date and provide notice as required by applicable law.
